Frequently Asked Questions

Which tractor model is right for my property?

This may seem surprising, but the size of your property isn't the main factor in choosing the right tractor. In fact, the horsepower you need depends more on the type of work you'll be doing than the number of acres you own.

When choosing a tractor, the two most important questions to ask are:

How much weight do you need to lift?

If you'll mainly be using a front-end loader to move hay bales, pallets, logs, gravel, or other heavy materials, you'll need a tractor with sufficient lifting capacity. Choosing a tractor that's too small may limit what you can safely and efficiently lift.

To make choosing easier, simply visit our Tractors page and use the FEL Lifting Capacity filter to narrow down models based on the lifting capacity you require. Our FEL lifting capacities start from 450 kg on the Trident 35HP Canopy Tractor.

Will you be doing heavy ground-engaging work?

If you plan to do heavy ground-engaging work, such as deep ploughing, we strongly recommend choosing a 60HP or above tractor model. These tasks require greater engine power, a higher tractor gross weight, higher torque, and increased pulling capability to operate implements efficiently without placing excessive strain on the tractor.

To make choosing easier, simply visit our Tractors page and use the Engine Gross (HP) filter to narrow down the models based on the horsepower you need.

Property size guide (general reference only)

If you still prefer to use your property size as a starting point, the guide below provides a general recommendation. However, please remember that the type of work you plan to do remains far more important than acreage when selecting the right tractor.

5 – 25 Acres: 35HP – 50HP Tractors

This range generally includes our compact tractor models.

Compact tractors are ideal for light-duty applications such as mowing, slashing, landscaping, light material handling, towing trailers and implements, and general property maintenance. They are well suited to hobby farms, lifestyle properties, and small acreages where heavy ground-engaging work is not the primary requirement.

25 – 50 Acres: 60HP – 80HP Tractors

This range generally includes our utility tractor models with lower horsepower.

Most models are available with a standard transmission, while the Trident 65HP Canopy Tractor and Trident Plus 50HP A/C Cabin Tractor are equipped with a synchromesh transmission. These tractors are suitable for light to medium-duty farming applications, including loader work, landscaping, mowing, slashing, towing, and operating a wider range of implements. They also provide the additional power and weight needed for more demanding tasks compared with compact tractors.

50+ Acres: 90HP – 150HP Tractors

This range includes our larger utility tractor models, available in standard, synchromesh, and powershift transmission options.

These tractors are designed for demanding agricultural applications and are well suited to heavy farming, large-scale landscaping, extensive loader work, towing heavy equipment, and operating larger implements for cultivation, seeding, and other intensive ground-engaging tasks. Their higher horsepower, greater tractor weight, and stronger hydraulic performance make them the preferred choice for customers requiring maximum productivity and efficiency.

Still not sure?

If you’re still unsure, contact our sales team on 1300 598 517 or submit an enquiry through our website. We'll help you choose the right tractor based on the work you plan to do, your lifting requirements, and the implements you'll be using.

What is deposit? How does it work?

During your discussion with our sales team, our salesperson may recommend placing a $500 deposit to secure your preferred tractor model. This deposit is fully refundable if you decide not to proceed with your purchase within 45 calendar days from the date we receive the deposit.

By placing a deposit, you can lock in the current price of your selected tractor for 45 calendar days if the tractor model is currently in stock. If the price increases during this period, you will still pay the original price confirmed at the time the deposit was made.

If the tractor is temporarily out of stock, the 45-day price lock will not begin until the new stock arrives. Once your tractor becomes available, you will have 45 calendar days to decide whether to proceed with your purchase or request a deposit refund. Even if the next shipment includes an upgraded version with a higher price, you will still pay the original price confirmed at the time the deposit was made.

Can I swap implements in a combo deal? How do I choose implements? Will my existing FEL and 3PL attachments work?

Yes, implements in a combo deal can be swapped based on your needs from our range of 45+ implement options. The price will be adjusted according to the value difference between the original and replacement implements.

When choosing implements, the most important factor is the type of work you plan to do. Different implements are designed for different applications, such as mowing, landscaping, material handling, soil preparation, slashing, towing, and general property maintenance.

We recommend considering:

· The tasks you need to complete – choose implements that match your main property maintenance or farming requirements.
· Your tractor’s horsepower and 3PL lifting capacity – make sure the implement is compatible with your tractor’s capabilities.
· How often you will use the implement – prioritise implements that will provide the most value for your regular tasks.

If you already own implements or attachments, they may be compatible with our tractors depending on your tractor model and attachment specifications. Our tractors are equipped with Category 1, 2, or 3 three-point linkages (depending on the model) for 3PL implements, and our front-end loader systems use the Euro Quick Hitch standard for compatible FEL attachments.

However, compatibility depends on factors such as the implement size, weight, hitch category, and hydraulic requirements. If you are unsure whether your existing attachments will work with your selected tractor, please contact our sales team for confirmation before purchasing.

If you are unsure which implements are suitable for your tractor and property, our sales team can help recommend the right options based on your requirements.

Can I finance my purchase?

Yes, financing options are available. We work with a finance provider, Credit One, to help customers complete the loan application process.

Please contact our sales team on 1300 598 517, and we can refer you to Credit One to discuss your finance options and complete the application.

Do I need a tractor licence? Can I register my tractor for road use?

Tractor licence and registration requirements vary depending on your state or territory and how the tractor will be used. We recommend checking with your local transport authority for the most up-to-date requirements regarding operating a tractor and using it on public roads.

If you plan to register your tractor, please note that some models include a rear registration plate mounting bracket, while others do not.

While a specific tractor licence may not be required in some situations, operators must understand how to safely operate the tractor before use. This includes understanding the correct operation of the clutch, gears, controls, and attachments.

Improper operation, such as riding the clutch or otherwise using the tractor incorrectly, can cause damage that not be covered under warranty, as it is considered misuse.

We strongly recommend reading the Operating Tips to Prevent Major Drivetrain Damage and the Clutch Operation Guide and familiarising yourself with the correct operating procedures before operating your tractor.

How easy is it to maintain a tractor?

Our tractors are designed with simplicity and reliability in mind. With straightforward mechanical systems and fewer unnecessary electronics, they are easier to maintain and repair, giving owners more confidence when looking after their tractor.

Routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting can be carried out without relying on complicated scan tools or advanced diagnostic equipment.

What warranty do you offer, and how does it work?

We offer a 5-year warranty covering both parts and labour (T&Cs apply) for our tractors, giving you peace of mind throughout your ownership.

If you experience an issue with your tractor, please first complete the Warranty Claim Form under the Service & Warranty section on our website. We require detailed information, including a description of the issue, photos, or videos, to help our warranty team accurately identify the problem.

After reviewing your claim, our warranty team will contact you via email, SMS, or phone to confirm the issue and provide the appropriate solution.

Depending on the situation, we may:

· Guide you through a simple repair process via phone or FaceTime video call if the issue is minor.
· Arrange for a local mechanic or repair workshop—either one you choose or one we recommend—to provide a repair quote. Once we approve the quote, we will authorise the repair and pay the repair costs directly to the repairer.
· Arrange for our own mechanic to attend and carry out repairs if the issue cannot be resolved locally.

If you want to book a service for your tractor, please complete the Mobile Service Request Form under the Service & Warranty section on our website.

· If you are within a reasonable distance of one of our branches, we can provide a quote covering travel costs, labour, and parts for servicing your tractor. Once you agree and make payment, we can visit your location and service your tractor onsite.
· For locations further away, we recommend using a local mechanic or service centre. You can purchase parts from us, and our team can work with your mechanic to provide service guidance if required.

Please note that our warranty covers manufacturing defects and eligible issues only. Damage caused by misuse, improper operation, accidents, or operator-related issues is not covered under our free warranty service.

How do I buy spare parts if needed? Do you locally stock them?

Yes. We keep a large stock of spare parts at our Australian branches to support our tractors and other products, allowing us to dispatch most orders as quickly as possible.

As a Nicola’s Machinery customer, you can request spare parts by completing the Parts Request Form under the Service & Warranty section on our website. Our sales team will confirm the required parts, email you the pricing and invoice, and arrange shipment once payment has been received.

We strongly recommend using the Parts Request Form, as we need detailed information about your machine to identify the correct parts. Our products have multiple updates, and parts may vary between different versions of the same model. Providing accurate details helps us supply the right parts.
